Franziska Heberle and her son, Klaus Heberle, discuss her family and childhood in Germany, her husband's academic career in Germany and the United States, the LSU faculty in the 1930s and 1940s, her work as a social worker for the State of Louisiana, her husband's scholarship and work with professional sociological organizations, his influence on Hubert H. Humphrey, and their experiences as Germans in the United States during World War II.

Rudolf Heberle was born in Germany in 1896 and studied sociology under Frederick Tonnies in the years following the First World War. In 1924 he was married to Tonnies' daughter, Franziska, and recieved his doctorate. Through the 1920s and 1930s, Heberle taught at several universities in Germany but was forced to emigrate to the United States in 1938 under Nazi pressure.
